Eligibility Information

Before you can play.....

Athletes who plan to play athletics during the 2023-24 school year need to complete the online registration process before they will be eligible to begin practicing.

Some important details to be aware of when completing the online registration program. Please take a moment to review the following items before starting the online registration form.

  • Your child must be registered as a student in the Shawano School district before you can register them for athletics. Their information must be already included in Skyward, our student management system. If your child is not already registered as a student in our school district, please contact the district registrar to complete the registration process. Home-schooled students should contact Heather at 715-526-2175, ext. 8107.

  • The first step is to create a family account by following the prompts.

  • Once a family account is created, you can then register a child to that account. If you have more than one child that you wish to register, you will have the option to register additional children to your family account.

  • You will enter your child's first and last name and date of birth. This must match what we have on file in Skyward.

  • If you are unable to complete the registration process in one sitting, you will have the option to save your progress and return to finish registering at a later time.

  • In order to complete the registration process, you will need to upload either a completed WIAA Physical Form (signed and dated by your doctor), or an Alternate Year Card (if your child had a physical last year). These items can be uploaded as PDF files, or you can take a photo of the form and upload the photo. (The information on the form must be legible). Our office will verify your upload and enter the date of the physical in the system. If you are unable to upload the document, you may bring them to the high school office and turn in the hard copies and we will assist you in getting the form uploaded.

  • When you submit your registration, you will receive a confirmation email that your registration has been received. The status of the registration will default to "PENDING". Once our office has had a chance to review the registration and confirm and enter the physical date, if everything is in order, the status of the registration will be changed to "APPROVED". You will receive an email confirmation of this status change. If the registration is incomplete, you will receive an email with specific information about what needs to be completed.

  • Your child will not receive a Permit to Practice card as they have in the past. Instead, the status of their registration will be communicated to their coaches directly through the registration system. The status of your child's registration must be "APPROVED" before the coach will permit them to begin practice.

  • We are still charging an athletic participation fee, however, we will not be collecting this fee at the time of registration. Instead, we will apply the fee to the student's Skyward account approximately two weeks after the first day of practice. You will then be able to play the fee online through Skyward, or you can pay in person in the high school office.

Concussion Insurance: The WIAA will be providing concussion insurance to its member schools. Student athletes who are injured in practice or play are covered.

1. The insurance will pay for covered charges after the primary insurance has been exhausted. (Also, referred to as “secondary policy” – in that it will pay secondary to any primary insurance in place.)

2. The insurance will also pay for any covered charges the primary insurance will not cover (including deductibles, co-pays, any other out-of-pocket charges).
