🐩🐈 LEADS first graders have wrapped up an exciting Animal Inquiry Unit!
Throughout this unit they were lucky enough to have special visits from pets belonging to families in their classroom, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, observe and learn firsthand about caring for animals. They also took a field trip to Navarino Nature Center, where students explored habitats and learned more about mammals in the natural world. 🐾
To connect learning with kindness, our class collected much-needed supplies for Joy's Place Animal Rescue, a local cat rescue. The unit ended with a visit from the director of Joy's Place, who brought along some adorable kittens looking for their forever home! ❤️

🎄📚 Members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) made the holidays even more magical!
They spread holiday cheer by visiting classrooms at Hillcrest and LEADS, where they read special holiday books to #ShawanoProud students. Smiles, stories, and seasonal joy filled every room!

The SCMS music students traveled to Brener to perform for the students and staff, sharing their talents and spreading the joy of music. After the performance, 5th graders were introduced to a variety of instruments, and even got the chance to try some out themselves!

Using bubbles, #ShawanoProud students modeled properties like fluidity, cell fusion, cell division, flexibility, and self-healing properties to better understand how cell membranes work. Science in action through curiosity, collaboration, and a little fun! 🤩

As a Senate Scholar, he’ll gain hands-on experience in policy development, constituent relations, and the legislative process by working directly with Senators, legislative staff, and UW faculty. 🌟

🎵 John, a junior at Shawano Community High School, devoted months of focused practice and steady resolve before completing a highly competitive audition process involving 1,500 students from across the state. His commitment earned him a place as one of only 40 violinists selected for the 120-member ensemble.
🎵 Jillian, a senior at Shawano Community High School, also dedicated months to refining her craft and preparing for the rigorous statewide audition. Her hard work secured her distinction as one of just 16 cellists chosen for this year’s 120-piece orchestra.
Both students rose to a challenge that asks for technical mastery, artistry, and endurance, and they soared. Their achievements reflect not only personal dedication but the thriving musical spirit of their school and community.

🏐 For the second consecutive year, Shawano Volleyball’s Natalie Bystol was awarded Honorable Mention All-State for her outstanding performance on the court! During her senior season, she recorded an incredible 453 kills, 264 digs, and 45 aces.
Natalie was also a unanimous 1st Team All-Conference selection, earned MVP honors for the 2025 season, and reached an amazing milestone by notching her 1,000th career kill! 🙌

Mrs. Sperberg’s first grade class had a joyful “Friendsgiving” on Friday! Students used M&Ms to share what they’re thankful for, each color prompted a different type of gratitude. They also made festive hats and created a special class snack mix to enjoy together.
They are so thankful for their class family… and that they are all friends! 🫶

This week our #ShawanoProud 4K crew took on a teamwork challenge from our Character Strong SEL lessons, and wow, did they rise to the occasion!
Each pair (or group of three) was given one simple task: work together to draw a single picture. 🖍️
It took patience, cooperation, and lots of giggles, but they did it!
These little minds proved once again that even the youngest learners can do hard things when they work together. 😁

By burning food samples and measuring the change in water temperature, students discovered how energy transfers from food to heat, connecting classroom learning to real-life concepts about how carbohydrates, proteins, and fats fuel our bodies every day. 💪
